Death Valley Photo Workshop
November 4-9, 2018
This is a unique opportunity to explore this amazing park with Jed Manwaring and Brenda Tharp. Jed and Brenda have made over a dozen trips into this park, and are intimately familiar with both the popular and off-the beaten-path locations. We’ll photograph at sunrise, into the morning light, and afternoon through sunset light, and because the angle of light is low, we can extend our photo time.
Early November is a wonderful time to be there – it’s a quiet time in the park, the low angle of light provides great shadows and textures, and it’s the season of potential for clouds and dramatic light, all the things landscape photographer look for! We’re scheduled during the week of a new moon, allowing for a night photography session for those who want to explore the starry sky. Weather/conditions permitting, we’ll make the drive to the racetrack for remote photography, and visit a remote dune field.
We’ll open this photo workshop on Sunday night with a visual presentation on and discussion on creating contemplative and expressive photographs, covering topics including photographing with intent, clarifying your vision, creating compositions with impact, how to see in black and white, and more. Brenda and Jed will be available to help you in the field, and we’ll have a mid-week image review/classroom session. Workshop ends after checkout on Friday, November 9.
The workshop is open to all levels, however a good working knowledge of your camera and the basics of photography will enhance your experience and your results. We devote one-on-one time to all while in the field, and with a maximum of 10 guests, and two leaders, the ratio is low, providing ample hands-on time if you want/need it.
